So how much real gold in an Olympic gold medal?

Not much. Actually, about 1.34% of real gold can be found in these first prize medals. Not to mention about 90% of it is silver and only a minute percentage is comprised of copper.

Did anyone actually think they were made of all gold? If we were to consider them all gold and look at the price per gram, these hefty medals would be worth over $21,000 each! Although these medals are not worth that amount, they are definitely priceless for many athletes.
